Terms of use

Plain terms for a free, non-commercial reference site.

01

The service

Athletic Stats (athleticstats.org) publishes athletics statistics compiled from documented sources. It is provided free of charge, for information, by Roger Morais as a personal, non-commercial project. There are no accounts, no paid features and no user-submitted content.

02

Using the site

You may read the site, link to any page and cite it freely. Please do not overload the server with automated requests: a polite crawler (identified user agent, modest rate) is fine; a scraper hammering pages is not. The compiled data is available under an open licence, so scraping is unnecessary; if you need it in bulk, ask through the help desk.

03

Licence of the data

The compiled lists, counts and derived statistics are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. You may copy, adapt and redistribute them, including commercially, provided you credit "Athletic Stats (athleticstats.org)" together with the upstream sources named on the page, and share adaptations under the same licence. Facts themselves (a time, a distance, a date) are not owned by anyone. The Athletic Stats name and logo are not covered by this licence.

04

Photographs and flags

Images keep the licence and attribution of their Wikimedia Commons file, shown on the athlete page and in the methodology. They are not covered by the CC BY-SA licence of the compiled data.

05

Accuracy

Data is reproduced from documented sources at a stated revision. Reasonable care is taken to import, review and present it faithfully, but errors can exist in the sources and in the processing. Nothing on the site is an official ranking, record list or statement by any athletics federation. Errors are corrected with evidence when reported, never silently.

06

Liability

The site is offered free of charge and as is, without warranty. To the extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for decisions made on the basis of its content. Do not rely on the site where an error would matter without checking the primary source.

07

Links, changes and contact

Pages link to Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and occasionally other sources, which have their own terms. These terms may change as the project develops; the effective date above is updated when they do, and continued use after a change means acceptance. Questions, corrections and takedown requests: RogerLe.com help desk.
